Johnson among six leaders at Pebble Beach

Golf Betting Lines

02/12/2010 - Pebble Beach, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Dustin Johnson managed a two-under 68 Friday and is one of six leaders after two rounds of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Johnson, the defending champion, completed two rounds at 10-under-par 132. He shares the lead with Paul Goydos (65), Alex Cejka (67), Bryce Molder (65), J.B. Holmes (67) and Matt Jones (67).

Former world No. 1 David Duval (68) is one shot off the lead at minus-nine.

With the pro-am format this week, play is spread over three courses -- Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill Golf Course, both of which are par-72s, and the par-70 Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club -- over the first three days.

Johnson, Holmes and Molder played Monterey on Friday, while Cejka and Goydos were at Spyglass, and Jones and Duval competed at Pebble Beach, which will host the final round.

Padraig Harrington, 67 at Pebble, is among three players tied for eighth at minus-eight and three-time winner Phil Mickelson is tied for 11th at minus- seven after a 67 at Spyglass.

Johnson looked as though he was going to lead by himself, but ran into trouble late in his round. He started on the back nine at Monterey and parred his first four holes.

After a birdie on the par-three 14th, Johnson parred the next four, but remained tied for the lead. He moved to 10-under with a birdie on the first and grabbed the out-right lead with a birdie on the par-four fourth.

Johnson was ahead by one, but faltered to a bogey on the par-four eighth. He parred the last to share the second-round lead.

"I got off to a kind of rocky start. Made some good pars, then started hitting it better coming around the last few holes," said Johnson. "I hit it real close on pretty much every single hole on the front nine, which was my back side, and couldn't make a putt. I had three or four lip out."

Goydos, who was recently named as an assistant captain for the U.S. Ryder Cup team, had a bogey-free round at Spyglass. He opened with a birdie on the first, then ran off three straight birdies from the sixth.

Around the turn, Goydos birdied the par-five 11th and closed with back-to-back birdies from the 17th to gain a share of the lead.

Cejka had two birdies and a bogey on his opening nine at Spyglass. He birdied four of the first seven holes on the back nine to jump to 10-under. Cejka parred the last two to end there.

"My form wasn't really good coming to this tournament," admitted Cejka. "I missed the last couple cuts. But I've been working hard and it's getting there. I made a lot of birdies when I had a chance, and that's the difference to be 10-under or just one-under."

Molder tripped to a bogey on the fourth, but came right back with a birdie on the fifth. After four straight pars, Molder birdied five of the nine holes around the turn to get to 10-under.

Holmes played steady golf with two birdies and 12 pars over his first 14 holes. He wrapped birdies at 15 and 17 around a bogey on 16.

Jones started on the back nine at Pebble Beach and was even-par through six holes, but he didn't have a clean card. He birdied his first two holes, bogeyed the following three and birdied the 15th.

The Australian managed to make the turn at six-under with a birdie on 17. Jones birdied three of the first four holes around the turn to jump to nine- under. He grabbed share of the lead with a birdie on the par-three seventh.

Harrington was joined in a share of eighth by D.J. Trahan (67) and Alex Prugh (68). Mickelson is tied for 11th with eight other players, including K.J. Choi (70) and Steve Elkington (67).

NOTES: The low 60 and ties will play at Pebble in the final round...Those finishing 61st to 70th and ties will receive official prize money normally distributed to those places...2004 champion Vijay Singh (71 at Spyglass) is tied for 20th at minus-six, while 2008 winner Steve Lowery is one stroke back at minus-five...Two-time winner Davis Love III stumbled to a three-over 75 and has a lot of work ahead of him if he is going to make the cut as he stands at plus-two, five shots over the current cut line...Five-time champion Mark O'Meara is also well over the cut line at plus-four.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value

If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture.  Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).

For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot.  The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.

TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the  drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.

"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,'  it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."

"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
