02/12/2010 - Pittsburgh, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Olli Jokinen scored the game-winning goal 1:02 into overtime, as the New York Rangers edged the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-2, at Mellon Arena.
Jokinen also had an assist for the Rangers, who had lost seven in a row against Pittsburgh coming into Friday. Brandon Dubinsky and Vinny Prospal also lit the lamp for New York, which got 25 saves from Henrik Lundqvist.
Rangers star forward Marian Gaborik was in the starting lineup after missing Wednesday's tilt with a laceration on his right leg. However, Gaborik lasted just a few shifts before calling it a night. New York also lost defenseman Michael Del Zotto to an injury on Friday, as the blueliner collided with Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin early in the first period and fell on Malkin's skate with the side of his abdomen.
Sidney Crosby scored both of the Penguins' goals. Crosby now has a career-best 41 goals on the season. Brent Johnson turned aside 20-of-22 shots before leaving late in the second with an undisclosed injury. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 16-of-17 shots in relief for Pittsburgh, which has lost three of four.
Just over a minute into overtime, Jokinen charged down the right side of the ice and made his way between the circles before firing a wrister past Fleury for the victory.
Crosby's power-play goal at the 3:53 mark of the third deadlocked things at 2-2. Sergei Gonchar's slapper from the point was beautifully deflected in front by Crosby.
Neither team scored the rest of the frame, sending the contest into OT.
The Penguins drew first blood at the 6:42 mark of the first period. Bill Guerin slid a pass to the slot for Crosby, whose slapper beat Lundqvist.
Dubinsky lit the lamp at the 1:28 mark of the second to tie things up. Chris Drury slid a no-look pass from behind the net to Dubinsky, whose wrister got past Johnson.
The Rangers took a 2-1 edge on Prospal's score at the 9:44 mark. Artem Anisimov led a rush down the right side of the ice before passing off to Prospal, who fired a wrister into the back of the net.
Lundqvist stopped all six shots that he faced in the second.

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
