Radwanska, Zvonareva among Day-2 winners in Dubai

02/15/2010 - Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Seventh-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska and last week's Pattaya City champion Vera Zvonareva were among Monday's winners at the $2 million Dubai Tennis Championships.

The Polish Radwanska moved into the third round with a 6-3, 6-3 second-round pasting of Latvian qualifier Anastasija Sevastova, while the 12th-seeded Zvonareva was a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 opening-round victor against fellow Russian Elena Vesnina on the hardcourts at Dubai Tennis Stadium. The busy Zvonareva titled in Thailand on Sunday by beating the host nation's Tamarine Tanasugarn in the final.

In other first-round Dubai action involving seeds, Italian Tathiana Garbin upended ninth-seeded Aussie Samantha Stosur 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4); No. 10 Flavia Pennetta pounded Hungarian Melinda Czink 6-4, 6-1; Israeli Shahar Peer ousted 13th-seeded Yanina Wickmayer 3-6, 6-2, 7-5; and Swiss wild card Stefanie Voegele vaulted past 15th-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5).

Additional opening-round wins came for Spaniards Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Anabel Medina Garrigues, German Andrea Petkovic, Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru, Belarusian Olga Govortsova, France's Aravane Rezai and Virginie Razzano, and Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova. Razzano, who was last year's Dubai runner-up to Venus Williams, defeated Tunisia's Selima Sfar 6-2, 6-2 on Monday. Williams is this week's third seed and will open defense of her title against German Sabine Lisicki here on Tuesday.

In addition to Williams, top-seeded U.S. Open runner-up Caroline Wozniacki, second-seeded French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and last week's Paris Indoors titlist Elena Dementieva, seeded fifth this week, will all take to the courts on Tuesday. Dementieva was the 2008 Dubai champ.

Fourth-seeded Victoria Azarenka and sixth-seeded former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic will also be among those seeing action on Day 3.

This week's top-eight seeds received byes into the second round.

The 2010 Dubai champion will pocket $350,000.
