Wizards' Sealy honored for 2-goal performance

09/18/2007 - Kansas City, MO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Kansas City Wizards forward Scott Sealy has been named Major League Soccer Player of the Week for week 24 following a two- goal performance in a 3-2 dramatic comeback win against the Columbus Crew Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium.

"It's always a good feeling to be recognized," Sealy said. "The most important thing is that we won the game and gave our home fans a lot to cheer about."

Sealys first goal came in the 31st minute to put Kansas City ahead 1-0 on a play he created and finished. Sealy was fouled outside the 18-yard area and then stood over the ball with defender Jose Luis Burciaga Jr. Both players started their approach, with Burciaga stopping and Sealy bending a right- footed free kick over the wall and into the upper-left corner past Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer for his third goal of the season.

Sealy then provided the game-winner to cap a historic Wizards comeback in minute 94th minute. Sasha Victorine played the ball out of the back, finding Eddie Johnson with his back to goal 25 yards out. He turned, then spun the ball wide for streaking midfielder Eloy Colombano before Johnson and Sealy continued their runs toward goal. Colombano took a touch then served in a hard, right-footed cross for Sealy at the near post. The Trinidad and Tobago international hit a snap header past Hesmer from six yards out for his second goal of the match and first-game winner of the season. The Wizards became just the third team in MLS history to erase a stoppage-time deficit to win a match.

"Our team is not a desperate team, but we were at home and we didn't want to disappoint the fans," Sealy said. "We went into the half one-nil and then they got two goals and we had two options, either give up or come back and our team has shown that we can come back and tonight was a perfect example."

"Scoring in the 90-plus minutes shows that our team is a fit team and a team that doesn't give up and we have been talking all week that it might take 90 minutes to win this game and it was a great ending," Wizards coach Curt Onalfo said.

Sealy has now won Player of the Week twice during his three-year MLS career, the first came in week 12 of last season after a two-goal performance against the Chicago Fire.

Marlins could start season without No. 2 starter Johnson

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.

Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.

MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .

''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''

Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.

He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.

''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''

Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.

Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.

With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
