Wizards ink Danish goalkeeper Nielsen

02/15/2010 - Kansas City, KS (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Kansas City Wizards signed Danish goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen, the Major League Soccer club announced on Monday.

"We are very pleased to add a goalkeeper of Jimmy's pedigree to our squad," Wizards Manager Peter Vermes said. "He brings a wealth of experience playing overseas, and I know he can't wait to put that experience to work in Kansas City."

Nielsen comes to Kansas City from the Danish Superliga, where he appeared in 388 games since 1995.

"Everyone I've talked to said it's a great setup here in Kansas City, with good facilities and great support from the fans," Nielsen said. "I'm really looking forward to coming to Kansas City and winning a lot of games with the team."

Nielsen is expected to arrive in Kansas City this week and will join the team for the second leg of their preseason preparations in Phoenix, Arizona starting on Feb. 21.

Per league and team policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
